Chiropractic for Pregnancy
prenatal chiropractic care
Chiropractic care during pregnancy should be an essential part of your prenatal care. Your systems and organs are providing for both mother and growing baby and need to be functioning optimally to support a healthy pregnancy.
The physical stress of pregnancy can lead to discomfort and symptoms such as low back pain, leg cramps, sciatica and constipation, to name a few. During pregnancy, a woman's body is undergoing a variety of changes to accommodate the growing baby. This rapid growth interferes with your body's normal structure. Chiropractic care helps restore the balance to your pelvis and spin, allowing the baby and your uterus optimal space to accommodate growth.
Webster Technique
Chiropractic care is beneficial for all pregnant women, however, for women with malpositioned (breech, posterior or transverse) babies, chiropractic care can be invaluable.
"A chiropractic adjustment called the Webster Technique is a specific sacral adjustment to help facilitate the mother's pelvic alignment and nerve system function. This in turn balances pelvic muscles and ligaments, reduces torsion to the uterus and offers a greater potential for optimal fetal positioning"
DR. Jean Ohm, International Chiropractic Pediatric Association
By removing pelvic dysfunction through the use of Webster Technique, babies in the breech, posterior or transverse position can be encouraged to move into the ideal head down position, preparing them for a safe vaginal delivery. More information on the Webster Technique can be found here.
